Duchenne Parent Project España manifiesta su preocupación por la no financiación de tratamientos

 Duchenne Parent Project España (DPPE) expresa su preocupación por la decisión del Ministerio de Sanidad de no financiar un corticoide autorizado por la Agencia Europea del Medicamento (EMA) para el tratamiento de la distrofia muscular de Duchenne dentro del Sistema Nacional de Salud. Esta medida limita las opciones terapéuticas disponibles para las personas afectadas, afectando directamente su calidad de vida.

La Distrofia Muscular de Duchenne es una enfermedad genética, degenerativa y sin cura, que afecta en España a cerca de 1.100 personas. Se caracteriza por la ausencia de distrofina, una proteína esencial para la estabilidad y el funcionamiento del músculo. Esta carencia genera un ciclo continuo de daño e inflamación que acelera el deterioro muscular. “Romper este círculo inflamatorio es clave para modificar el curso de la patología”, señalan Silvia Ávila, presidenta de Duchenne Parent Project España.

Su evolución provoca una pérdida progresiva de movilidad y la necesidad de soporte vital y atención domiciliaria 24 horas, generalmente proporcionada por sus familias desde edades tempranas. Actualmente, los corticoides constituyen el pilar fundamental del tratamiento, ya que su efecto antiinflamatorio permite retrasar la progresión de la enfermedad aproximadamente tres años y preservar durante más tiempo la función muscular.

Vamorolona es el único corticoide con autorización específica de la EMA para el tratamiento de la distrofia muscular de Duchenne en pacientes a partir de cuatro años, y es el primer fármaco que se autoriza de manera definitiva para esta patología, tanto en Europa como en Estados Unidos.

Su estructura molecular mantiene la eficacia antiinflamatoria de los corticoides tradicionales, pero con un perfil de seguridad más favorable, reduciendo efectos adversos graves asociados al tratamiento prolongado, como problemas de crecimiento, osteoporosis, fracturas o complicaciones metabólicas. 

Otros glucocorticoides, aunque ampliamente utilizados como estándar de cuidado, no cuentan con indicación específica centralizada en Europa y su uso se considera fuera de la indicación aprobada oficialmente, lo que implica que no están formalmente autorizados para esta enfermedad, aunque su eficacia clínica esté respaldada por la experiencia y las guías internacionales.

“Por ello, desde Duchenne Parent Project España insistimos en la necesidad de que las autoridades sanitarias reconsideren la no financiación de tratamientos autorizados y adopten medidas que garanticen un acceso equitativo a terapias seguras y efectivas, permitiendo que todos los pacientes puedan beneficiarse de avances médicos que mejoran su calidad de vida”, declara Silvia Ávila.

Lively kick-off in the spring: jazzahead! brings together musicians from all over the world

The event calendar kicks off with the jazzahead! music festival from 23-26 April 2026. International jazz greats and innovative newcomers will transform the Messe Bremen exhibition centre into a creative hotspot for music lovers, specialist visitors and curious newbies. The festival is considered one of the most important of its kind in Europe and includes concerts, exhibitions and inspirational fringe events to get the whole city tapping its feet.

Art, concerts and exercise under the Bremen summer skies

In Bremen, the summer months are all about chance encounters and creative diversity. At the beginning of June, the Festival La Strada (5th – 7th June 2026) is full of spectacular street art, acrobatics and theatre in the heart of the old town, all part of Bremen’s summer of events. The festival has drawn in up to 100,000 visitors a year since it was first held in 1994. The Breminale from 15th – 19th July boast a varied programme of open-air music and cultural events. From indie to electro, from regional newcomers to international acts, this popular festival held on the Osterdeich attracts a relaxed audience that spans all generations.

In the warmer months, the miles of cycle paths and the Bremen bicycle culture are an invitation to explore the cultural treasures the Hanseatic city has to offer by bike as well as on foot. The GFNY (Gran Fondo New York) international race series is also making a perfectly-timed stop in Bremen on 30 August 2026. Amateur and professional cyclists can tackle a 60 or 110 kilometre course giving them the chance to qualify for the legendary GFNY World Championship in New York City. It is a sporting event that provides lots of entertainment and excitement for competitors and spectators alike.

Celebrations of German Unity Day and the Freimarkt await in the autumn

There is a real stand-out event in Bremen in autumn 2026: This year, it is the Hanseatic city’s turn to lead the nationwide celebrations of German Unity Day on 3 October. Based on the motto ONE COUNTRY – MANY STRENGTHS, the old town in Bremen will be converted into a huge stage for culture, exchange and conversation between the 2nd and 4th October. As well as interactive exhibits and presentations on the theme of democracy, visitors can enjoy a creative family area and a gourmet walk dotted with delicious treats of all kinds.

There is no shortage of indulgence at this year’s Freimarkt either.  As one of the oldest and largest carnivals in Germany, this autumn fair on the Bürgerweide between 16th October and 1st November combines centuries-old carnival culture with modern rides, foodie treats and a wide range of fringe entertainments . The Medieval market on the market square and the grand carnival procession are among the highlights of the Freimarkt.

The year is rounded off by Bremen’s traditional Christmas markets

At the end of the year, the traditional Bremen Christmas market from 23rd November to 23rd December 2026 is full of twinkling lights and North German hospitality, making it the perfect opportunity for an enjoyable stroll around the UNESCO World Heritage Town Hall. Alongside the traditional Christmas market, the magical Schlachte-Zauber on the Weser is teeming with maritime flair, with a pirate village and wonderful glittering lights around the harbour.

El Hospital Ochoa posiciona a Marbella en la élite de la Cirugía de Columna con una técnica endoscópìca de alta especialización

                         

 

El Hospital Ochoa consolida su liderazgo en medicina de vanguardia en la Costa del Sol tras el éxito de una intervención de columna de alta complejidad técnica. Bajo la dirección del Dr. Carlos González Plata, referente nacional en cirugía endoscópica, el centro ha implementado con éxito la técnica IE-ULBD (Interlaminar Endoscopic Unilateral Laminotomy for Bilateral Decompression), un procedimiento que sitúa a Marbella a la altura de los centros quirúrgicos más avanzados del país. Innovación técnica con carácter mínimamente invasivo. La técnica IE-ULBD representa un salto cualitativo respecto a la cirugía convencional. 

El procedimiento se realiza mediante un endoscopio de apenas 10 milímetros, lo que permite al cirujano descomprimir ambos lados del canal vertebral desde un único y mínimo acceso. Este nivel de precisión reduce drásticamente el trauma tisular y acelera la recuperación del paciente.  

 "Mediante este acceso mínimo, somos capaces de resolver patologías complejas de forma eficaz, minimizando los riesgos asociados a las cirugías abiertas tradicionales", explica el Dr. González Plata, quien además de su labor asistencial en Hospital Ochoa, ejerce como vocal de la Sociedad Española de Cirugía Percutánea y Endoscopia de Columna (SECPEC) e instructor nacional en estas técnicas. 

--Resultados clínicos: de la silla de ruedas al alta en el día. 

 La eficacia de esta tecnología quedó demostrada en un reciente caso clínico de un paciente de 64 años con estenosis crítica del canal lumbar en los niveles L3-L4 y L4-L5. El cuadro presentaba un deterioro neurológico progresivo que había limitado la movilidad del paciente hasta depender de una silla de ruedas. Gracias al carácter mínimamente invasivo de la técnica empleada en Hospital Ochoa: 

 • El paciente pudo ponerse de pie y caminar sin dolor a las 12 horas de la intervención.

 • Recibió el alta hospitalaria el mismo día de la operación. 

 • Se eliminó la compresión de las estructuras nerviosas de forma inmediata, restaurando la funcionalidad de las extremidades inferiores.
