Abbott Laboratories on Tuesday announced plans to combine its American and international patented drugs business into one organisation, Dow Jones reported. In addition, the drugmaker announced that senior vice president of US Pharmaceuticals Donald Patton will retire effective February 28.
Company spokesman Scott Stoffel said that the new combined business, which will be known as the proprietary pharmaceuticals division, will be responsible for commercialising patent-protected, brand-name drugs. The new division will be led by Carlos Alban, who previously served as senior vice president of international pharmaceuticals.
