Cancer survival rates are improving but regional disparities remain across England

Cancer survival rates across England have improved by up to 10% for people diagnosed between 2001 and 2006 compared with a decade earlier, new figures show. But regional differences have persisted.
The figures, based on data from the National Cancer Registry, include all adults (aged 15 to 99 years) in England diagnosed with a first, primary, invasive cancer. They demonstrate improved one and five year relative survival of between 3% and 10% for cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, colon, lung, and breast for adults diagnosed during 2001-6 compared with 1991-5.
