Today, the European Commission and its non-food Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (SCHER) launch a consultation on a draft Opinion on environmental risks and indirect health effects of mercury from dental amalgam (update). The consultation will run until 20 November 2013. Interested parties are invited to provide comments on the scientific evidence online.
Once adopted, this opinion will update the 2008 Scientific Opinion on the same subject, in light of the new evidence that has become available since then. In addition to the online consultation, a public open hearing will take place in Luxembourg on 6 November 2013 to gather more contributions on the preliminary opinion.
